Child safety

Who the app is for

LonelyGirl is for people 13 and over. Creating an account means confirming that, and it is in the Terms. Accounts found to belong to anyone younger are removed.

What is not allowed

Any sexual content involving a minor, any attempt to get sexual content from a minor, and any attempt to arrange contact with a minor for a sexual purpose. This covers messages, room descriptions, events, playlists, profiles and the scrapbook. There is no exception for “jokes”, drawings or writing.

How it is prevented

Everything written in the app goes through an automated filter before it appears, and anything the filter is unsure about waits for a person. Chat has no photo messages. Profile photos do not exist; avatars are a colour and an initial. The scrapbook is the one place an image can be posted, and every image waits for a moderator before anyone sees it.

How to report it

Tap a message, then the three dots, then Report. Or tap a name to open the profile and report or block that person. Every screen where someone can write has a Report control. You can also email ivywills@hotmail.com at any time, and you do not need an account to do so.

What happens to a report

A person reviews it, normally within 24 hours. Content that breaks this policy is removed and the account is banned from posting anywhere in the app. Material that appears to be child sexual abuse material is reported to the Canadian Centre for Child Protection through Cybertip.ca, as Canadian law requires of an internet service run from Canada, and to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, which passes reports to law enforcement in 170 countries. It does not matter where in the world the person involved is. The account and its content are preserved for the investigation rather than deleted.

The law

LonelyGirl complies with the child safety laws that apply to it, including the laws on reporting child sexual abuse material, and will cooperate with lawful requests from law enforcement.
